Mystery Film

Details

Out of curiosity, I ordered some “My Heart” C41 film on eBay. Everything I had read online indicated that what I got would pretty much be a random film respooled into different canisters. I ended up actually getting a cinema film, which I’m pretty sure was just Koday Vision3 250D. I shot this first roll in the south end of Halifax, NS.

This was my first time developing slide film myself. The results were far from perfect but I’m happy with the images after a bit of color correction. The photos were taken in Halifax, NS.

Saturday in Halifax

Details

These photos were taken over a day in Halifax (with a few taken in Dartmouth well). I tested a couple things out with this roll. First, it was Fuji Superia Xtra 400 pushed to 1600. I also took some of the photos with a polarized filter (the daytime images of flowers, as well as the train/harbour). I was very surprised at how well it held up at 1600. There is noticeable grain but certainly more shadow detail than I expected, particularly in the night shots. The polarized filter added some really stunning color depth to the flower images as well.

Photos taken on a Sunday morning at Rainbow Haven beach in Cole Harbour, NS. The film used expired in 1992 and was likely preserved poorly. It was rated at 100 ISO and shot at 25 ISO.

C41 in ECN2 XPro

Details

These photos were taken at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, NS. The film used was a regular color negative film (not a cinema film), but it was cross-processed in ECN2 chemistry. The remjet removal prebath was skipped, as the film had no remjet layer.
